WhatsApp launched group calls

More than a billion people on the planet yesterday got the opportunity to chat in WhatsApp groups. The developers of the messenger announced this in their blog.

Since February of this year, there has been no information on the exact timing of the launch of group calls. As a reminder, since WhatsApp version 2.18.39, released on February 6, a certain circle of people who are beta testers have been able to communicate via conference calls.

From July 30, 2018, all WhatsApp users will be able to add other users to the conversation. It is noted that group communication is implemented immediately for both voice calls and video calls. The developers have limited the maximum number of participants in a group call in the WhatsApp messenger to four users. Whether this limit will be increased in the near future has not yet been announced.

Making a group call in the messenger is as easy as possible. To do this, at any time during voice communication, simply click on the “Add person” button in the upper right corner of the screen. The developers assure that group calls, like simple calls, will be fully encrypted.

Group audio and video calls will take WhatsApp messenger to the next level. If now, according to the internal data of the messenger, users spend more than 2 billion minutes a day on calls, then analysts say this figure can now increase by at least 1.5 times.

The new feature is available in the latest messenger update for iOS and Android.
